Description
Two cranes rise in flight before a delicately pink-tinged rising sun, their wings spread wide, while below waves gently roll onto the shore.
The painting on paper largely dispenses with color, letting the dynamism of the birds emerge solely through fine lines and delicate washes – a high point of classical ink painting, in which movement is captured with just a few confident brushstrokes. Cranes have long been regarded as a symbol of good fortune, fidelity, and long life.
The Kakemono bears the signature of Nakajima Raisho and is delivered including a wooden box. Created in the Shôwa period, this hanging scroll is a festive, symbol-rich motif that is ideally suited as a gift or as an eye-catcher in traditionally styled rooms.
