Description
A luminous full moon emerges from the mist, half-hidden behind the dark silhouettes of trees and rising wisps of cloud. The treetops stand out sharply against the bright moonlight, while the background dissolves into soft tones of gray and beige. In the upper part of the image, a single bird traces its path through the misty night air – a quiet, fleeting sign of life amid the contemplative expanse of the scene.
The composition draws its life from the interplay between light and dark, between the radiant moonlight and the muted, atmospheric background. This quality of mood – described in Japan as wabi and mono no aware – lends the work a poetic depth that goes far beyond mere depiction of nature.
The painting bears the signature and seal of Mori Yuzan and was created in the Showa period. Painted on silk, mounted with jikusaki made of bone and a silver-gray patterned brocade border, this hand-painted unique work is complemented by a signed wooden box.
