Description

Two playful raccoon dogs – often referred to as "raccoons" in German – frolic beneath a softly glowing full moon through a field of autumn grasses and blue bellflowers. The nocturnal motif belongs to the long tradition of Japanese animal and moon paintings, in which the autumn moon serves as a symbol of impermanence and quiet beauty, while the animals bring liveliness and curiosity into the scene.

The animals are painted with a fine brush and warm brown tones on silk, their soft fur rendered almost tangible through numerous individual hair strokes. Signature and red seal at the lower edge of the image complete the carefully composed scene and bear witness to the artist's hand.

Mounted in an olive-green silk border decorated with fine tendrils, this kakemono conveys a cheerful yet poetic mood. A charming hanging scroll for lovers of Japanese animal motifs and nocturnal landscape moods.
